A necessary repair procedure was performed on George
Smith's monument in Rock Castle's cemetery recently.

The in accurate decoration at the top was removed and
replaced with a period correct flame. Deep cracks were
                                filled to prevent further damage.

On June 13th this past summer, Rock Castle volunteers in conjunction with volunteers from the Gallatin Shalom Zone and others teamed up with the Hendersonville Baha’i community to clean and restore the Rock Castle Slave Cemetery. Over the years as the Rock Castle property has been pieced off and sold, the slave cemetery was unfortunately separated.  Currently residing between two residential properties this small cemetery is now watched over by the descendents of those buried there. Working side by side they rolled up their sleeves and started pulling weeds, removing debris and tenderly coaxing headstones from the ground where they had fallen. It has been a true honor for us to resurrect this cemetery from its dilapidated state to one of pride and dignity and to contribute to its commemoration of their lives.

TEA PARTY!

On the 25th of July, Historic Rock Castle had the honor of hosting the delightful company of several lovely young ladies.  Each had been invited to attend an exquisitely crafted tea party. The room was beautifully accessorized with all of the delicate accoutrements befitting the interests of our fashionable young visitors. The table was set as if in anticipation of a royal feast. Honored guests enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres, decadent desserts and of course, some refreshing tea. Pleasant conversation circulated the table as complements were exchanged.

Directly after enjoying their refreshments, our guests donned their hats and gloves as we made our way to the Castle. They remained attentive and engaged throughout the tour and showed particular interest in the high society ladies gowns displayed in our museum room.

Though they were some of Rock Castle's youngest patrons they presented themselves with elegance, grace and the utmost refinement. It was quite a pleasure to host such an enchanting group of charming young ladies. A splendid time was had by all.
