What is the Drop-off / Pick-up Process?

  • Drop-off: on the driveway next to the Pavilion @ 9:00am

    • Parents will enter through the Rock Castle front gates (139 Rock Castle Lane) and follow the paved roadway to the back exit. Camp Staff will be at a sign-in table next to the driveway. Parents will park along the driveway and sign in camper at the table. Camp Staff will walk campers from there to the Pavilion.

      • Please do not arrive before 8:45am; Campers may not be signed in early

      • Camper must be signed in each day by an adult (individual 16+)

      • Parents / those dropping off will not be permitted in the Pavilion area. Camp Staff will assist campers with their belongings from the sign-in table to the Pavilion.

  • Pick-up: at the same table as drop-off @ 3:00pm

    • Only adults (individuals 16+) listed on the registration form will be permitted to pick-up a camper. The adult must show a photo ID at the time of pick-up each day. Campers will not be released to any individual without a photo ID whose name is listed on the Camper’s Authorized Pick-up list.

    • If your child will be picked-up before camp ends, please notify camp staff at the time of drop-off or by calling/texting the Camp Director during the Camp day.

    • If early pick-up is during Lake/Water Games time, the individual picking up will be required to park and walk to the Lakeside area to sign out the camper.

    • If it is raining during pick-up, parents will be directed to the Visitor Center to sign out their camper.

What kind of water shoes are best?

Anything that will stay on their feet while swimming (Frontier, July American Girl, Revolutionary Adventure, and Survivor Camps ONLY).

Anything that is comfortable to run around in (each camp does water games each day).

Many campers wear old sneakers, or Chaco or Teva type sandals

  • Please note, campers are required to wear shoes at all times while at Camp. If a camper does not have shoes he/she can wear in the water, they will not be allowed to participate in the water games or kayaking/Lake time

My child is not a strong swimmer and/or I am uncomfortable with him/her being in the Lake. Are there other options during swim time at the Camps that include the Lake?

Yes - we will have water games on the lawn, and other activities (crafts, games, etc) that they have the option to do instead of kayaking/swimming.

What happens in the case of inclement weather?

Rock Castle Camps are rain or shine. We will be outdoors at all times (even potentially in rain) unless there is lightning in the area. In that case, we will move into the Visitor Center and continue activities indoors until it passes.

We have an excellent Meteorologist — Bree Smith (Channel 4 Weather) — on our Board of Directors, and she helps us make the best decisions regarding weather. Our Camp Directors monitor the weather throughout the day, including a lightning detector.

Is having / bringing an American Girl Doll required?

Not at all! Most campers bring some type of doll to American Girl Camp — we offer a free-play option each day when they can play with their dolls together and create doll houses — but not every camper chooses this option. If they do bring a doll, it does not have to be American Girl Doll brand. Other popular brands with a similar style that our campers bring are Our Generation (Target) and My Life As (WalMart).
